DEATH OF MR MICHAEL MOYNIHAN
A WORTHY RESIDENT. Very general regret was experiences in Shannon this morning when it became known that Mr Michael Moynihau had-passed away earlier in the day, alter a brief illness-.- The deceased was 65 years of age, and was bom in Ballarat, Victoria, coming to New Zealand with has parents at an early age. They settled on the West Coast in the digging days. Later the family moved to Lyttelton, where they kept the Lyttelton Hotel lor about :act years. Mr Moynihan a member of the Armed Constabulary in the early days, and after leaving the service was licensee for a short time 01 Barrett’s Hotel in Wellington. He settled in Shannon 3(f years ago, becoming the proprietor of the Club Hotei. and has resided here ever since. Both lie and. Mrs Moynihan, who predeceased her husband a year ago on Sunday, earned the respect and goodwill of the community, and were held in very general esteem. Not only were they generous in all public matters, but their kindly* natures found expression in many deeds of benevolence performed quietly and without parade. Mr Moynihan was always a supporter of sport, and in more ways than one Shannon loses by-his. deain a worthy and respected citizen. lie leaves a sister, Mrs Robinson, of Wellington, and three sons, Messrs. William, Thomas and Bewi Moynihan, the two latter being.the well known footballers. To them the sympathy, ol all will go out in their great , loss. As a mark- of respect the public meeting called for to-night has been postponed until a later date.
