SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting, of the Shannon. Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr Murdoch), Crs. Hook, Gardner, Spencer, Butt, Hyde, Fargher and Murray, CORRESPONDENCE. From Dr. Macdonald applying for the erection of a lamp-post on the street in, front of his rooms in Mr Watterston’s house, Stout Street. He. stated he was prepared to supply ;the.: lamp (an approved pattern streetlamp) fittings and th,e,,light, if the Council can see’its way to erect the post—Cr. Spencer moved that the!request he acceded to, which was agreed, to. ■ v
From G. I. McGregor, applying for appointment as solicitor to the. Council to act in matters which do jnot. come within the Municipal Association’s solicitor’s retainer.—To be [informed that the. Council was making no appointment' at present. '• I. From County Clerk, Horowhenua County Council, re Shannon. Borough’s share of interest in former, loans for year ending'March 31, next. In adjusting special rates this year they find the Shannon borough should have paid the bulk of the interest on No. 40. Otauru Stream loan—amount; of loan £266. He presumed it had been overlooked when adjustments were made. He had obtained tracing from Wellington of the special rating district, and was lending the: same,, to borough so they could see they were’ chargeable with the rate. He did not propose asking ■ for any arrears,: but had pul; down this year’s amount: at. £6. The Council’s share of special rates for interest was £62 12/I.—Re-. CGived. PIPESI FOR WATER. From the Spiral and Lock-bar Steel Pipe Co., Wanganui, bringing under the notice of the Council-pipes manufactured by them. Also inviting Mayor and Councillors to inspect their works at Wanganui, offering to defray all expenses of visit.. ; - The Mayor said he thought it was not'"necessary to make the visit, as the work in connection with laying the pipes would be let by tender. ( Cr. Hyde did, not agree. The;,.Council will have to state in calling tenders what kind of pipes are requir-;; : ed, and they should, get-all the’infpiV. matiori they could of the different' makes of pipes. Cr Murray: We need to get all the expert opinion we can as. to the best, pipes to procure. . ,
It was then decided, on the motion of Crfl Fargher, that the ; Spiral Pipe Co. be thanked for their invitation, to visit their works and to be informed that the Council will consider, their letter later. :

W. Walker, Levin, offering to supply oil drums,—Town Clerk to ' order 50. : ■» - ''■ - - * 4 GENERAL. The Mayor informed the meeting that he had received several csmpliments during the pastrtew days of the satisfactory work done' at the cemetery. Crs. Spencer, Gardener and Hook reported having inspected the creek at Mr Curran’s, where a great deal fof erosion is taking place, and had cqine to the conclusion nothing can be done, unless Mr Symes would agree to; a groin being put in, which would need to be a chain above the wash-out; also it) would be necessary for the propertyowners in that locality to : sign an agreement clearing the Council of any . liability that may arise, as . a resuit of any further erosion. ' ■ ’ Cr. Hyde thought it was time for the plot to be sown down.—lt. was, decided that Road Committee instruct roadman to sow it down. - * 1
A special meeting of the Council will be held on Thursday evening at 8.30 p.m. to consider the tenders, for the three houses to be erect.ed by. the borough. Applicants are to be asked to attend.
