BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting.of the Borough Council was;held in the Council Chambers on v Tuesday -evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) and Crs. Hook, Gardner, Butt, Spencer, Richardson, Fargher. " correspondence.

EXCESSIVE MOTORING SPEEDS.'
i ■ Fronh Town Clerk, Otaki Borough Council, stating his Council had had under consideration the , appointment of,special constables part time within the borough to assist the local police in putting down-the excessive/ speed of motor cars, and .incidentally to reduce, the amount of "cycling on footpaths and desiring to know if the Shannon 'Borough* Council would bp agreeable.,to a conference, along 1 with file' Horowhenua ,County, Levin and Foxton Boroughs, to be' held , at-a place be arranged, with the object of --'making - a combined appointment.' They stated the advantage would be that, no one would know where .the&e ■speoia,! 'constables 'were working, and they believed the > additional, cost would’'6e. comperisatQdjby a saving in road maintehaifce. '
Cr. Gardner considered the police were quite afil’e to deal with the question of., excessive speed by motorists .througlr the town, and he thought it should be left to them. ' / 1 The Mayor and councillors agreed with .him. On-the motion' of the Mayor,'"it was decided to inform-.the Otaki Borough Council that the Shannon Borough Council does not approve of holding a conference in regard to 'excessive' speed of fiiotorists and, cyclipg on footpaths, as they think’ it should bp left to the police {’a deal with, but they are strongly fin, favour of holding a conference <o deaf with the question of heavy loads passing through the towns 1 . \ It was decided to draw attention to the. excessive speed of motorists Through, the towns, also of ’persoi is cycling on the- footpaths,‘and riding without lights at night. ■ -‘GENERAL. v/.'v, , . .T. The Mayor stated Mr Curran had waited' on. him in reference to an erosion in ;the creek near the pound caused by. the ; recent flood, . and desiring to know if the Council could do something to prevent further eitn Sion, as it was likely to flood Ms property.—Resolved, that the. Road Committee furnish a full report at the next meeting. ~- • ~Cr. Hook said he had received complaints about stock grazing ,on the roads, and wanted to know what Die ranger j was doing.—Decided to. write ranger and inform him he must carry out his duties strictly.'
