£ INFLUNEZA DEATHS IN NEW YORK. UNPRECEDENTED NUMBER. (Received Thursday, 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 15. A Chicago telegram states that the middle-west and northern States are jn the grip of a terrific cold wave and blizzards, the cold varying from one degree below zero here to eighteen below in various parts of the central plain of the Unitctd States, and 45 below at Prince Albert, Canada. Two persons w;ere killed through exposure in Chicago; and two were burned to death at. Richardson, Saskatchewan, where a locomotive collided with a snow plough. Four children were burned to death at Pine City, Minnesota, by fire due to excessive heating. Transportation through the north and west of the United States is paralysed, owing to snow. In New York, the influenza epidemic has assumed an unprecedented height with the approach of the severely cold weather: One thousand and .thirty-nine cases were reported to-day and 795 yesterday. Twenty-four influenza deaths and 78 pneumonic were recorded to.day. Yesterday there were 12 fewer deaths from both diseases.
