The subject of noxious weeds was debated at the last (meeting of the Oroua County Council, when Cr. Vincent voiced a complaint from" Mr MeHardy, whose property 'adjoins the Ferry Reserve, that his land was threatened with goats' rue which was growing in tho reserve. Cr. Morrison expressed the opinion that something should be done in the matter of eradicating the weed, and he thought the council should meet Mr MeHardy as far as possible. Cr. Vincent mentioned that, in conversation with a noxious weeds inspector, he had been informed . that noxious weeds appeared in cycles—they flourished and then died away—an illustration of which was the prolific growth of the Californian thistle some years ago, but which now was not much in evidence/ The fear of tho thistle apparently had now been replaced by the fear of goats' rue, "but," remarked Cr. Vincent, "my fears of the spread of this weed have been allayed considerably by the inspectors' remarks." It was eventually resolved that the question bo referred to tho engineer to report on at the next meeting.
