A very thrilliiig spectacular event, was provided at the Lyttelton regatta •one day last week* when A. E. Eastwood made a triple parachute descent .from an aeroplane, piloted by Captain 'Euan Dickson. The machine came over jLyttelton at a height of 4000 feet, and after it had manouvred over the harbour the parachutist climbed out on a wing from which lie dropped. Each parachute opened promptly, and the dock just behind Lyttelton, final drop was made on to an open padAkapita Takitangata, an* educated Maori of Awahuri, no-w seventy years of age, states that he was the first Maori in Manawatu to open a post office savings bank account. He was prompted to do so by the fact that his jiame, Tahitangata, means "the first -man/’ and in the hope that his fellow Maoris would follow him, and thus acquire the savings bank habit for his people. A party of New Zealand miners left this country for Russia about four months ago, states the Grey River Argus, and, it is believed, reached their .destination safely.
