Mr A. Seifert stated at the Horowbenua Power Board on Tuesday that a good deal of destruction was apparent in the hardwood forests of Australia which he had recently Visited. So great was the 'evil t that the Government had reserved 1.1 ,’(500,000 acres of pole country, and from this reserve the requirements of Australia and New Zealand would be drawn in future years. With the Government control of the area supply would be regulated, but there was every prospect of prices being higher when these Government areas were drawn upon.
