SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Owing to the usual l'ortnignt ly meeting of the Council falling on the evening of Boxing Day, the meeting took place at the Council. Chambers last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr Murdoch) and Crs. Hook, Gardner, Spencer, Murray, Richardson, Hyde and Fargher.

CORRESPONDENCE

From Mr A. Steer, forwarding instructions for adjusting and using dray tip recently purchased by Coun-cil-Received.

From Mrs K. Ross, offering to purchase lantern light now at Fargher and Co.’s if price is reasonable.—Left to Cr. Fargher to deal with. From secretary Shannon School Committee applying for five tons of tar.— Agreed to donate. ; From Secretary, Department of Labour, calling attention to section 15 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921, by which Council is called upon, to hold a special meeting in the month of January for the purpose ol' deciding what working day in the week shall be the statutory half-holiday for .shops in the district, and to notify the Minister of Labour of the date so decided upon.—Decided to hold meeting on January 9.

GENERAL. Cr. Spencer moved, and the Mayor

seconded, that sections on corner of Vance Street and Plimnier Terrace be offered for'sale as follows: Section 1 at £IOO, and sections 2,3, .4 and sat £BO each. Terms to be £lO deposit and £5 per quarter until paid off, un- > paid portion to bear 6 per cent interest.

Accounts totalling £35 14/ were oassed for payment. The ranger, M. O’Connell, was ap-

pointed dog tax collector. The Mayor reported he had received a number of complaints of damage done by stock grazing on the borough roads.—Cr. Spencer moved that all stock grazing on the borough

roads must, be herded, otherwise they be impounded, as fromy Monday, De-

cember 25, which was carried. At the conclusion of the meeting, Councillors wished the Mayor the compliments of the siea&on, which were heartily reciprocated.
