NATIVE LAND BOARD.
A sitting of the Native Land Board was held at Shannon on Thursday. Mr Thompson, Native Land Purchaser, presided. The sitting wias held to consider the proposal made by Messrs. Ellis and Burnatid, of Te Kuiti, to purchase the block of land known as the timber block Maraeroa. B. 38, Section 28., which is situated near Te Kuiti, the interested parties being ■Ngati Whakatere, mostly of Shannon. Mr Mark Downes represented the owners and Mr B. Ornisby, licensed native interpreter, of Te Kuiti, acted for the purchasers. The block in question consists of 1374 acres, for which Messrs. Ellis and Bumand had offered £2 4/ per acre. After the valuation had been discussed by the parties interested, a proposal to offer the block at £3 per acre was agreed to by the owners, and Messrs, Ellis and Bumand agreed to take it at that price.
