ARMISTICE DAY.

TELEGRAM FROM HOME government. The Mayor of Shannon has received the following official memorandum ttom the Prime Minister regarding Armistice Day.'—

“I have the honour to inform ydii that I am in receipt of the following cablegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies:—

‘‘•Armistice Day.—His Majesty the King has expreseed wish for suspension of normal business during two minutes’ silence at 11 a.m. on Armistice Day, November 11, as last year. His Majesty’s Government propose to hold ceremony same general lines as last year, including laying wreaths '(see my telegram of October 26, 19211 except that hymn will be ‘Old Hun- , dfedth.* 1

“The telegram of October 26, 1921, referred to above, reads as follows: ‘“lt is proposed in this country there shall be a short military ceremony at the cenotaph, tn which .presentative detachments of the Roy Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, and exservice men’s associations shall take part. Representatives of His Majesty and Prime Minister will lay. wreaths Just before eleven. High Commissioners are being invited to be present and lay wreaths on behalf of their respective Dominions. After , two minutes’ silence, commencing at 11 a.m., hymn, ‘0 God our help in ages past,* will be sung, accompanied by massed bands. Upon its conclusion ’Reveille! will be sounded by buglers and ceremony will he completed.’ “In accordance with His Majesty the King’s wishes, 1 should he glnrt if you would kindly make suitable arrangements for your city.”

The Mayor requests that all business in Shannon be suspended on Saturday at 11 a.m. in commemoration of Armistice Day, as requested in the above message.
