This provision will give a good deal of satisfaction to the club’s patrons arid the racing public generally, arid If is certain the club will find itself fully justified in making a move tMfS'is in keeping .with the times.
It is anticipated that Amythas will be a pretty certain starter in the Cup at the Levin meeting next week. The fields kept up surprisingly well in the third day’s racing at Riccarton yesterday, and afforded much better racing than that witnessed on either of the preceding days. Gasbag created an Australasian record by winning the Canterbury Cup yesterday in 3min s£sj|fc\?or the, two miles and a-quarter. Both in the Jockey Club Handicap and the New Zealand Oaks Stakes, run at Riccarton, the judge was unablei to saparate the leading pair, which is a unique experience so far as Riccarton is concerned, thought it has been achieved on other courses.
Enthusiasm, who has been performing with conspicuous success in the North Island of late, dead-heated with Gold Light in the Oaks, and the Hawk and Anomaly could not be separated at the post in the Jockey Club Handicap.
C. Emerson is at the head of the joekey’s list at this stage with about 29 wins to his credit.
The sire Panmure met with an accident recently by which a fetlock was injured.
Mark Time, Dodo, and Koauau are reported to be doing good work on the Bulls track.
The brood mare Signal March, owned by Mr C. Keeble, Palmerston, was recently sent to Auckland, where she will be mated with Lucullus.
Marqueteur paid a great price when he landed a Metropolitan Handicap at Christchurch. This aged son of King Mark can hold his own with the best when well. His connections were thrown in for a good win.
At least one Melbourne bookmaker will have cause to remember Whittior victory in the Caulfield Cup of 1922 as ho is known to have laid a wager of j £IO,OOO to £3OO in Sydney at 33 to 1 j about the Woorak colt. I
Lady Faa, formerly trained at Wanganui, is now receiving her education at the hands of J. Hathaway, Palmerston North.
