PIGS SHOW AN IMPROVEMENT
The usual market on Tuesday saw a fair yarding of pigs, witli a good all-round sale, and an improvement in the porker classes. There was a practical clearance in all lines. Sheep again were few in numbers, two or three pens comprising the entry. Good sales were made, fat wethers reaching 28/5, and small woolly hoggets 21/. Cattle were an ordinary lot, a feature being the large number of bulls, comprising all breeds and ages, that were submitted, and were quitted from 12/6 to £6, the latter being for good purebred animals. The dairy section was poor in quality and brought prices accordingly. There were some wellbred Jersey heifers entered, which sold from £6 12/ ,£7 4/ up to £l2, with others in proportion. Pigs: Weaners 16/6 to 21/6, stores 23/ to 25/ 'and 26/6, porkers (light) 29/ to 33/6, and up to 39/6, £2 4/ to £2 6/. Sheep.—Medium ewes xvith small lambs 31/3, small woolly hoggets 21/, fat wethers 28/5.
Cattle—Four-year bullocks £5, forward bullocks £5 18/, fat cows £4 6/, two-year Polled Angus steers (low conditioned) £3 7/, two-year Polled Angus heifers (low conditioned) £3 8/, store cows 16/ to 30/, vealers 29/ to 33/, bulls 12/6 to £2 2/6 and up to £6, wellbred Jersey heifers £l2, £7 4/ and £6 12/, ordinary £2 17/ to £3 16/, heifers in milk £4 to l £7 7/6, dairy cows £4 to £6.
