; Labour Day will be a big day in Shannon, should the weatheir keep ’ fine, for the local tennis enthusiasts, ' as a team, from the Shannon Club will • endeavour to wrest the Newman Cup from the Bulls Club, the present holders. The Cup was presented by Mr Newman, M.P., about five years ago for competition among country clubs in his electorate, and during that period the Bulls Club have held it all the time, having defended successfully on no less than fifteen occasions against different clubs. The Bulls Club, in a true sporting spirit, have now decided to bring the Cup to Shannon and give the local club a chance to win it on their own court. The local team are putting in some hard practice, and will put iip a hard fight to secure the coveted trophy. All members and their friends are requested to attend. The day’s play will wind uji wtih a dance in the Druids’ Hall, when the Bulls team will be the guests of the local club.
