SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.
The Shannon School Committee held its regular monthly meeting last Tuesday. Present: Messrs. .T. W. Murray ,(chairman), Downes, Watterston,-Wat-kins, Anderson and Carlyle. My Vov.sey (head teacher) was also in attendance. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Wellington Education Board informing the Committee that an increase of 5 per cent on the amounts being paid will be available as from Ist July last, in view of many indications that School Committees need more money for incidental =xpenses.—Received. From Mrs Barber ,of Plimmerton, with advice that in the event, of a picnic from Shannon visiting the bea-h, she would be glad to cater, hot water, etc., as in the past, as extensive alterations have been made for the convenience of picnic parties. Received. GENERAL. The chairman reported the gross receipts for the school concert to be £26 1/ (which was considered very satisfactory), and a complete report will be given at a later date. The secretary was directed to write Messrs. Hyde and Wilkinson re rentof Maoriland Theatre on the occasion of school cpncert. The purchase of fencing material was authorised. The sum of £l7 6/6 was passed for payment.
