PROGRESS WITH DAM. AN UNDERGROUND WATERWAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) , Particularly good progress is being made on the workings at Arapeti dam. On the cross-drive Messrs. Marshall, Whyte and Diamond and party 're working three shills and doing so ate smart 'excavation work. Messrs. L. Devereaux and party recently struck an underground waterway in the No. 2 tunnel, and for several shifts were compelled to work the face with a veritable deluge overhead. Fortunately the pumps were, capaole of dealing with this extra water satisfactorily. The party piercing this tunnel, which is of larger diameter than No. 1, are making good progress. Friday’s heavy rain caused quite a consternation in the camp. Nearly every roof-recorded leaks of varying dimensions. Some of the compliments passed regarding the roofing were .not very Parliamentary. In the No. 1 tunnel the vmrkers made a very hasty exit on account of the inrush of water Avhicfh was caused by the creek rising above normal level. All -were able to reach a point- of safety until the flood waters abated, when they resumed woi'k. The billiard room was opened at tl.e Y.M.G.A. hut on Friday evening, and is already becoming a very acceptable recreation among the workers. The local committee intend running a tournament at an early date.
