SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was (held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (m the chair), and Crs. Hook, Gardiner, Spencer, Butt, Fargher, Richardson and Hyde. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr F. G. Reid, Peione, quoting dog collars lor coming season.— Received. From Mr Edward Newman, M.P., notifying Council he was in receipt of a letter from the Minister of Finance, in which he states that the State Advances Office is at present lending money to public bodies for constructing water supplies. The maximum amount that may he advanced to a local authority during any financial year is £SOOO. If this sum is insufficient to enable the Council to proceed with the work, an application for the balance of loan required could be* made next April. Loans are at present being considered for a term of 36$ years at 4$ per cent interest.—Received.
Mr F. G. Rout wrote drawing attention to the boulders tipped in the main street close to the railway station, and informing them, that an accident occurred tcThis car, caused by a horse shying at them and running against, it, damaging ihe footboard, and claiming £2 10/ damages.—Referred to Council’s solicitor.
From the Health Department, re contribution of local authorities for infectious disease and general sanitary work, pointing out that certain modifications with regard to the amounts chargeable,. have been decided upon, and-that- the Council’s yearly contribution will now be £29. —Cr. Fargher moved, and Cr. Gardiner seconded to re-appoint the inspector as from October 1.
OVERSEER'S REPORT. ’rite Overseer reported that during the last month he had carted metal out on to Clapham Street 20 yards, Stafford Street 70 yards, and Vance Street 80 yards. He had also put -in the two culverts in Stout Street and Newlown, and cleaned out. two drains, one through the Council’s own property and one in Ada Street.

i Crs. Spencer, Gardiner and Rut! reported that, in company with the ■ Engineer (Mr Edwards) they had gone ‘ over the route for the proposed water- ! works scheme. The Engineer had ex- ! plained everything fully to them, amt they could see no difficulties, j On the motion of Cr. Hyde, the Council resolved .that any person found with any collection of garbage in their yards will be most rigorously prosecuted, and that arrangements have been made that said rubbish can be removed by a small payment to 1 the carrier. j Accounts totalling £34 3/ were pnssj od for payment. j «:•
