The Gisborne gelding Prowler made his iirst .appearance at the Otaki meeting in the opening event on Monday, and heat a field of 11. The favourite, Santonlo, who won on the first day, could not foot it with, the Gisborne representative, and had to be content with second money. Prowler ran into place money at Palmerston North last Wednesday. Redlogue and Mattock showed consistent form by scoring respectively in the Dominion Hack and Second High Weight Handicaps on the second day. Mattock scored a win and Redlogue a second on the first day. That speedy Panmure filly Entirusiasm was on her best behaviour again in the President’s Handicap,

when she scored her second win of the meeting. She romped away from the opposition, and there was a. break of several lengths between her anu Bonnie Heather at the finish.

Although Pillage was in hot demand by the public in the Electric /lack, Miss Rene made no mistake. She was in front when the tapes lilted, and remained there to the tin ish.

Another to race up to first-day form was Passionless, who was made favourite in the Railway Handicap, and justified the public confidence. Kyoto gave the punters a surprise by getting home in the Rahui Welter and returning the biggest dividend of the meeting. After being out of the winning list for some time, Cold Steel showed he has not lost (his galloping powers by annexing the concluding event of the meeting. Although fancied on both days, Probate failed to land a win, a sec ond to Cold Steel being her best performance.

Bonnie Heather had a lot of sup porters in both starts at the meet ing, but a second in the on the second day was the nearest be could, get to the big end of the stake A mare that was running just out side the money at Otaki was the; lo-cally-owned Makere. An inquiry into the running of Mungakino in the Steward’s Hack Handicap on the first day at Otaki resulted in the disqualification for twelve months of the trainer of the horse (C. Morse), the rider (J. W. Nixon), and Mungakino. The. sum of £19,967 10/ was registered by the totalisator during the second day at Otaki. The total for the meeting was £38,847 10/, as against £51,516 last year. The Horowhenua Racing Club is considering the installation of the 10/ tote at the annual meeting in November.

The Ilorowhenua Club is providing a casualty room on the course tor the coining meeting in ease of accidents occurring. A new top is also to be placed on the outscTe stand, so that it may be utilised by outside patrons to view the races. No less than 85 nominations have been received lor the Hunters’ Hurdles at. the Pakuranga Hunt Club’s meeting. This is surely a record, and even i I: a govi percentage drop out in the acceptances, will require to be run in heats.
