The latest offering at the Maoriland Theatre is “White and Unmarried,” which will be shown on Wednesday and repeated at Tokomaru on Thursday. The stoiy relates that Billy Kane, called the hermit burglar, because he works alone, falls in love with, a photograph 6f Mrs Welter's daughter, which photograph he has stolen. Billy’s uncle dies and leaves him half a million, and he starts lor Europe. On the steamer he meets Dorothea, the original of the photograph, and her mother. In Paris, Billy takes Dorothea out one evening to “see the other side,” and at a notorious dance hall, Dorothea becomes infatuated with Marechal, a young Frenchman. Billy notices little Andree Duphot, a dancer of the establishment, and she. lures him into a dance. Chicoq, an Apache leader, is jealous, and tries to knife Billy, but is floored. Billy, Marechal and Dorothea leave, and in another wine room Billy discovers that Marechal is a pickpocket. Billy continues his friendship with Andree. Chicoq becomes insanely jealous, vows vengeance, and kidnaps Andree. Then follow a host of startling events, which are best left to the screen to tell.
