HOROWHENUA PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION
The quarterly meeting of the Horowhenua County Patriotic Association was held on Wednesday, those present being Messrs. P. W. Goldsmith (chairman), J. McLeavey, R. G. McLean, w. Howell, W. Kilsby, G. Catley, F. Plaster, J. Smith, F. Walkley (secretary), and Mrs T. F. Gibson. It was decided to refund a small advance made by the Hawke's Bay War Relief Association to a soldier from this district.
The Marlborough Patriotic Association wrote that it had advanced monies as directed to a soldier settler from the Horowhenua district to the amount of £3O. The chairman stated that the Horowhenua Association had sent the money to the. Marlboroitgh Association, which had paid it out periodically.
The Hawke’s Bay War Relief Association recommended assistance for another two months to a soldier from Horowhenua receiving medical treatment in that district. . The Wellington War Relief Association wrote it. had advanced £5 5/ to a married soldier from the Horowhenua district. It was decided to reimburse the amount, and to ask the Wellington Association to continue whatever assistance it considered necessary. . The application of a Shannon soldier for a loan of £IOO was granted oil the usual terms on the motion of Mr Howell.
A grant of 10/ per week was made to a Shannon soldier for a term of three months, payments to be made through his mother.
The case of a Levin soldier was considered. He asked fob a return of a. re-payment he had made to the Association, as he had an obligation to meet which he had not expected so soon.
It was explained the soldier had a loan from the Society, and had made a re-payment, which he was asking to be paid back to him temporarily. < It was decided to accede to the request.
A grant of £3 was made to a married soldier 1 fonrierly residing here and now in Wellington.
Mr W. de Malmanche notified the Association that it was his intention to fence his property adjoining a section owned by the Association. Mr McLeavey and the secretary were appointed to meet Mr de Malmanche and go into the matter.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT. A statement of receipts and expenditure submitted by the secretary for the period from July 19 to September 20, 1922, showed receipts totalling £B5l 2/2, which included balance brought forward £65 12/8, transferred from Post Office Savings Bank £l2O, matured war certificates £4BO, and interest £l2O. The expenditure included £6OO transferred to the Post Office Savings Bank. -
