CLOSING THE MAIN ROAD.

QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT.

Mr W. H. Field, M.P., has given notice to ask the Minister of Public Works, Whether he will at the earliest possible moment give his .earnest consideration to the request of the Horowhenua County Council that the Government will make provision for repairing the Ohau and other bridges on the Main West Coast Road, which traverses this narrow county from end to end, and which serves the whole of the area of country between the City of Wellington and the Manawatu, Rangitikei and Wanganui districts, such repairs being considered imperative by heavy and increasing motor-lorry traffic, of which it is estimated that v less than one-tenth has its origination and destination within the Horowhenua County; and whether the Minister, before arriving at a determination, will give full weight to the undoubted facts and special circumstances laid before him by members of the Council and the member for the district? (Note: It is certain that the Ohau Bridge will have to be closed at any moment, and practically all vehicular traffic on this main highway suspended, if repairs are not put in hand forthwith.) The question is set down for answer on September 20.
