THE PUBLIC HEALTH.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Over two weeks ago I wrote & letter which was published in the Shannon News drawing the attention of The residents of Shannon to the existence of a very dangerous and very insanitary open cesspool in the town, but up to the present nothing has been done about it.
A few days after the letter appeared in the paper the Borough Councillors held a meeting in the Council Chamber, Shannon. 1 read a report of that meeting in the Shannon News, but there was no mention made in the report whether anything was said about the cesspool or whether any steps are t® be taken to have it filled up or otherwise protected. Now what I would like to know is whether the. matter was mentioned at that meeting'or whether your reporter failed to give you a full account of business dealt with on that occasion.
If the matter was not brought up at. all then I’d like to know what we have Councillors for, or were they too shy or afraid to mention it. They seem to be able to talk ,a lot about other matters of minor importance and this is a very serious matter which is affecting or likely to affect the. people of Shannon, and they cannot say they did not Juiow about it, I can assure you that a lot of people in Shannon know quite well of the existence of the cesspool mentioned and its exact location, so it is quite unnecessary for one to say any more on that point.
If the Councillors cannot attend to this matter I would be pleased to know what steps I could take to have it remedied. 1 am, etc. HYGEIA AND VESTA.
