POWER BOARD’S OPERATIONS.
PRELIMINARIES TO ACTIVE WORK
At the meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board on Tuesday. Mr Mathoson asked what work the Engineer would take in hand first. "As much publicity as possible should be given to the Board’s operations .
The Engineer said his first work would be to get out the quantities of material required, and to call for tenders for the supply and delivery of that material. He would first have to make a more definite estimate and survey than he had don 4. Mr Gunning thought it rather a pity the Board was not ready to go on with some of the work, as it would lelieve some of the unemployment. Later on, when all the Boards were operating at once there might be a scarcity, of labour.
The chairman said the Board was proceeding as fast as it could. He had not felt inclined to countenance committing the Board to expenditure until the ratepayers had given their verdict. He agreed with Mr Gunning that it would be very nice to be able to provide the work, but considered the Board had been judicious in its progress.
The Engineer slid he would start out from Shannon and work from there to Foxton and Levin.
