HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
WEEKLY MEETING
The usual meeting of the union was held on Tuesday, Mr W. Thomson presiding. A third grade player wrote suggesting that a third grade rep. match be played as a curtain-raiser to the senior rep. match either in Shannon or Otaki,
and that, it be either North or South or a combined team Weraroa and Rovers v. Foxton and Shannon. The third grade players would like such a game the writer said, and it would be an encouragement, to them.
The Union decided to take no action on account of the expense in getting the teams together for such a match. The Te Horo junior team wrote entering a challenge l'or the Otaki Licensed Victuallers Cup, held by the Otaki juniors.
The game was set. down for Saturday next at Otaki. The Paraparaumu juniors also challenged for the Licensed Victuallers’ Cup, this match being fixed for August 26. ,
The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote enclosing a cheque of £2O, the amount allocated to encourage school football in this district,—Received with thanks. The New Zealand Union wrote that the Sports Protection League had entered on an active campaign to persuade the Government to relinquish the collection of the amusement tax so far as athletic organisations were concerned. It was requested that all Unions take up the matter by way ol resolution, and wherever possible to enlist the support of local M.P.’s in the campaign. The chairman moved, and Mr L. Dixon seconded, and it was carried unanimously, that the Horowhenua Rugby Union strongly support the New Zealand Sports Protection League in its efforts to have the amusement tax removed from all athletic organisations, and that copies of the resolution be forwarded to Messrs. E. Newmau and W. H. Field, M.P.’s. Mr T. B. Mason, hon. secretary ol the Shannon Football Club, wrote stating that his club was issuing an official programme, in connection with the Wairarapa v. Horowhenua rep. match next Wednesday, and asked to be supplied with the names of the Horowhenua team, matches played this season and results, matches to be played, and other particulars, for insertion in the programme.—To be supplied. The New Zealand Union informed the local Union that disqualifications of H. McDonald, L. Buckman and J. Young had been confirmed. —Received.
The chairman mentioned the proposed amalgamation with Manawatu, and the secretary was instructed to write inquiring the present position Df matters. | LACK QF HOSPITALITY AT PALMERSTON. Mr Bevan reported on the visit of the Hui Mai club to Palmerston North bn Saturday to play a mated with the R.S.A. team, which Hui .Mai. won. Mr Bevan commented on the absence of any Union or club representatives to meet them, the visitors having to look for accommodation, etc., as best they could and make their own arrangements.
The chairman moved, Mr Dixon seconded, and it was carried: “'That tfiis Management Committee learns 'with regret of the treatment, meted out to the Hui Mai Club on the occasion of their visit to Palm'erston to play a friendly match arranged under the jurisdiction of both Unions; this Committee considers that such lack of courtesy as shown by the officials of the Manawatu Union does riot tend to create good feeling amongst the local clubs.” This was carried.
