THE MANAWATU SEAT
We learn.that, representations have been made to Mr C. I. Ilarkness by a number of Reform supporters in regard to allowing himself to be nominated for the. Manawatu seal. It is understood that there is considerable dissatisfaction in regard to the recent selection of a, candidate by a conference at Foxton. Mr Harkness is now considering the matter of allowing his nomination 'to go forward. Though still a young man he is old in public service, having taken a prominent part in local body work for a number of years as a member of the Wellington Education Board, the Horowhenua County Council, the Horowhenua A. and P. Association, and a director of the Ivuku Cheese Company. Mr Harkness entertained thoughts of contesting a seat in Parliament at last election, but refrained on that occasion in favour of the sitling supporter of Reform, and his action on that occasion should give him some claim on the party nomination.
