Mr Monk, chairman of the Horowlienua Electric-power Board, stated at Die meeting on Wednesday evening that .Shannon was a town which was looking forward to electricity, and there was every reason to expect that- it would be the first town iii the Horowhenua district to get it.

The friends of Bob McKeicii, who was removed to the Hospital about three weeks ago, will be pleased to hear he has returned home.

The fortnightly euchre party and dance in the Parish Hall was held last Tuesday evening, when there was a good attendance.

The shareholders of the Shannon Cooperative Dairy Co. will hold their annual meeting in the Druids’ Hall on Saturday next. Mr Stevenson, head of the Dunedin Engineering Co., who have secured the contract for laying the pipe line in connection with the hydroelectric scheme, was a visitor to Shannon on Wednesday. It is understood it will he about three months before lire contractors start on the pipe line in connection with the Mangahao scheme.. About 1600 tons of piping and material will be used in connection with the work.

The following were the tenders received for the erection of the first t\Vo cottages under the Shannon Council’s housing scheme: Messrs. .1. Deer and L. WLschnowskyi (Halcombe), £794 17/6; M. Olsen (Palmerston North), £763; Hansard Bros (Dunnevirke), £570; G. Booker (Shannon), £615 (accepted). The lowest tender was not accepted owing to the tenderer not having complied with, the conditions of tender.

in conversation with our representative, Mr Murdoch, the Liberal candidate tor Manawatu, referred to Mr Vile’s letter which appeared in our last, issue. Mr Murdoch said it. was quite irue he received a communication from Mr Vile, suggesting a conference of delegates from different parts of Ihe electorate, with a view to selecting one candidate to represent I Liberalism and Labour against Conservatism. He states it was not discourtesy on his part, in not acknowledging if; the fact was he intended to reply the day Mr Vile waited on him in .Shannon. 11. is also true he Would not entertain any conference such as was suggested, as it was quite impossible to select a Liberal-Labour candidate as far as he was Concerned. In any case, he intends going to poll no matter who may he selected as the j official Liberal-Labour sandidatfi.

■ Shannon residents are looking forward to the visit of the Levin Band on Sunday next, when it will play a musical programme in the Reserve. Mr Beard, of Whitanui, was the successful tenderer for the 'char-a-banc in the estate of I. Gelhor.

Mr Ralston, the Government Auditor, has Just completed an audit of the Shannon Borough Council’s accounts over a period of two years, and found everything in order and satisfactory.

The bankruptcy has been tiled of Hector Neil Gemmell, engineer, of Shannon. His debts amount to £124 6/9 (unsecured). His secured creditors are owed £3OO, against securities estimated at £403. His other assets consist of £lO worth of book debts. A final reminder is given of the Mangahao Pierrot Troupe’s entertainment to-night, when patrons are advised to take their seats betimes, as a full house is expected.
