MAORIS V. PAKEHAS—SATURDAY.
THE TEAMS SELECTED
The match Maoris v. Pakehas, which is set down for Saturday on the Levin Domain, should prove a big draw, as two fine teams (have been selected. The first match between these sides produced a fine exhibition, and there is every prospect of Saturday’s game being even better. The teams are as follows:
Maoris. —Full-back, Taylor (Foxton); three-quarters, Wakefield (Weraroa), N. Winiata (Wanderer's), Johnston (Hui Mai); five-eighths, Moses (Foxton), T. Winiata (Wanderers); half, .[Hui Mai); wing forward, J. he cleared of the fern in ample time. The chairman considered they should wait and .see how the Taranaki match went at Shannon before playing a game at Foxton. Mr Bevan opposed the proposal. It meant taking the majority of the rep. players to Foxton, whereas it would not be very inconvenient for the two or three Foxton men to come to the centre, Levin. If Foxton was given the match, every place with a senior team would want a rep. game too. It would not pay the Union to do that. -
Mr Winiata said the prpposal looked like an attempt to override the Union hv outside clubs. He did not agree with it. The Union should decide for itself. The chairman said it was all a matter of finance. The Union wan tod all
the money it could get, and should play the games where they paid best. Mr Whibley pointed out that it was only a fair thing to give rep. matches to outside centres in order to give the people in those places a chance to see a big match. The Foxton support-
ers also had a right to be considered, and should not be asked to come to Levin for all rep. matches. To grant the request would be a good move on the part of the Union,: and get the football public behind them. The motion, was lost.
Mr Bevan moved and Mr Dixon seconded, that the match be played in Levin. This was carried. The names of Messrs. Thomson, Burrows, Par at a. and Sciascia are to be forwarded for the selection of a referee. MAORIS V. PAKEHAS SATURDAY.'
• Mr Dixon, suggested that p mat eh he arranged for Saturday for the seniors in order to keep the /reps, in ionri. Mr Thomson considered that some game should be played, Possible v. Probables, or North v. South. "Mr Be van suggested that a Maori v. Pa.ke)ia match be.:■ arranged again. The last one was a very good game, and would draw well again. The chairman moved, Mr Winiata seconded, and it was carried, that a
M;.ori v. Pakeh i game be played at
Levin on Saturday.. ... . AMALGAMATION SCHEME. Mr Bevan said the suggestion had been made to him that the Ilorowhenua Union 'should circularise the clubs in this district, setting out the proposals for the suggested amalgamation with Manawatu, so that the clubs could discuss them. That seemed a reasonable request, seeing that
a meeting of delegates to cpnsider the
proposals was. to be held'next iuesday. Mr Carmichael said the Wanderers Club had a meeting the previous evening and- considered they should have had the suggestions to discuss, then. The chairman said there was an impression that, the amalgamation
would mean Horowhenua losing its identity. That was not so. Members thought if clubs desired the suggestions they should get them, and the secertary was instructed to
circularise them accordingly. OTHER BUSINESS. • it was decided to inquire from C, Porter, of Waikanae, the reason of
his not accompanying the rep. team to Palmerston North on Saturday to play in the Ho ro wh enu a-M an aw atu match. I
