POWER FROM MANGAHAO.

WILL THE BOARDS JBE READtfF.

' A report on the Mangaliao hydroelectric works was submitted to the Central Progress League at Wellingion by Mb U. Mitchell, M.P. He stated that the steady progress

which was being made at Mangaliao was an assurance that the authorities would he prepared to deliver power; to the power boards by the end of the coming year, hut the prospects of the boards being ready to receive Hie power were not so reassuring. There were seven power board districts outside of the city. Three of these (Waij rarapa, Manawatu and Horowhenua) I were well advanced, but the others were not so far advanced. In one case the board had not yet been constituted. It would only be fiy extraordinary energy and ability» on the part_ of these boards if they were prepared to receive the power by the end of 102$. “I wish again to point out',’’ he said, “that .with the. inevitable . rusJi ,by all the boards in the work of reticulation, house connections, and

general preparedness, all at the one

time, towards the end of next year, 1 experienced electricians will not he t ! in sufficient numbers to cope with the j demand. It' is, therefore, necessary I that those power boards well advancI ed should uVe these men at the earli- ' est'*possihle moment that they may be available for other boards coining on later. It is necessary to point out also that boards not ready to receive the power will be in danger of losing part, of. their quota to those

boards who. are ready anjd require the extra power. Had the work been pushed on this winter a great m ( any of the unemployed would have been absorbed."
