WHY NOT A SCHOOL CONCERT?
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Some time ago I wrote.to your paper about our local school, and wanting to know why there can be no school concerts. At. that the matter rested for the time, but no\v I feel that it is time the matter was revived. In your issue of July 14, in the report of the Committee appears: “Moved by Mr Quarrie, seconded by Mr Anderson, that the secretary write to various clubs asking for ( suggestions and assistance in the matter of raising funds towards annual school concert,”
Now, sir, why this motion? Are the Committee inefficient, or are they only lazy that they expect outsiders to do their work? To me it. seems as though the Whole of the adult population of Shannon who have dealings with school business are “tarred with the same brush,” and like to leave everything to the men on the street. In the past, the teachers were able to prepare the children lor at concert, so why not now? There is plenty of juvenile talent In Shannon to put on a really good concert without asking the Tennis, Football and Golf Clubs to give a. concert and the school to reap the berfefit. My advice to the teachers and Committee is to wake up and get a school concert .up by the children—if the teachers are unable to do it, there are plenty of others who can—but remember, “If you want a thing done, do it yourselves.”—l. am, etc.,
