FLOOD ANTICIPATIONS.
CORRECT INFORMATION WANTED
The question of supplying the correct information regarding the presence of flood water in the Manawatu River was raised by Cr. Barber, ol Tokomaru Riding, at the Horowhenua County Council meeting on Saturday. He stated that the Post and Telegraph Department had undertaken the obligation of notiflyirig the settlers in the Tokomaru and other districts of a rise in the river in the Manawatu Gorge. This gave them time to prepare lower down the river. The last time there' was a fresh a rise of one foot was notified, and he did not trouble to move his stock, but he found later on water appeared on ground, not previously flooded when a rise of a foot was reported. He had to move sheep next morning through water to dry~ground. The settlers wanted better information in future, and he suggested that the local bodies of the district concerned approach the Post and Telegraph Deportment on the matter. Cr. Monk, chairman, stated that it was hardly necessary to approach the local bodies, but to communicate with the Department direct. There was no doubt the matter was an important one to the farmers concerned, and as the Postal Department had undertaken the duty, it should supply correct information.
It was resolved to draw the Department's attention to the matter.
