It is reported that an enterprising taxi-proprietor in Shannon is about to open up a repair shop. Mrs Rawlinsoh has purchased the sweet shop at the Maoriland Theatre, lately carried on by Mr S. Mitchell. An Auckland telegram reports the death oi Mr Seymour Thorne George, ex-M.L.C., aged 71. A specail meeting of the Borough Council will be held this evening to go into the plan and estimate of the workers’ dwellings. Mrs T. Wood, of Shannon, was a winning exhibitor at the Levin poultry show, her entry securing the first award in the Minorca hen class. Tenders are being called by the Public Trustee for the lease of the Albion Hotel, but it is not anticipated that there will be any change in the present proprietary. A very successful dance was held by the Shannon Football Club on Thursday last. The hall was tastefully. decorated and considering the | inclement weather a large number were present. The supper arrangements, which were in the hands of a committee of ladies, left nothing to i be desired, and the club wish especially to thank Mrs McDonald, Mr& Beard, Mrs Kilmister and Mrs Terry for their untiring efforts and, also Messrs. Moynihan, Bovis and McDonald for donations and goods.
