The match between the Wanderers and Weraroa seniors does not call for any special comment, as the play did .not reach the standard of several other senior games witnessed this season. The. play was largely among the forwards, in which the Wanderers more than held their own, especially in the tight work, but Weraroa proved' willing workers in the loose, and carried the game frequently to their opponents’ quarters. Holder, who is playing well this season, was responsible lor the first score of 'the Wanderers. The latter set up a strong offensive, and the forwards carried on to the Weraroa goal, where Holder went across and touched down, 'the try was unconverted, and the Wanderers led 3—o at half time. In the second half Carmichael arid Campion added tries fpr the Wanderers. From a forward rally in the Weraroa twenty-five, Campion picked up and sent out to N. Winiata, who handed son to Carmichael. The winger sprinted for the line and got over at the corner. Campion, who is,always on the ball, scored a well-deserved try. Weraroa’s try was registered by P. Gray. Cole, Read and Wakefield were prominent tn leading a forward attack on the Wanderers, and worked their way through ‘and over the line, where Gray got up in time to touch down. The game ended 9—3 in-lavour of the Wanderers. The back play of the winners was not up to previous exhibitions, the handling of the ball being uncertain. The Weraroa backs attempted little in the in the way of combination, and weie a long way below the form of their ! opponents. Mr Burrows, of Shannon, was the referee. ~
A GOOD JUNIOR GAME. . The junior match between Tokoinaru. and Rovers proved a good exhibition on Saturday, the quality of the- football being better' than that seen in -some of the senior games. The teams were well matched, but Tokomaru’s weight and the more aggressive work of their backs had its effect in the second hall', when the visitors wound up with a lead of 10 to 0. The forwards made the game very fast, and when the play came their way continued it at top pace, showing both packs to be in firstclass condition. Open play among the backs was indulged in whenever opportunity offered, but the, Xokomaru passing was surer than the Rovers, arid they made more of their chances, thopgh the Rovers’ defensive work was quite sound. In the first hald G. Rowlands brought off a beautiful drop kick for Toko, and in the second half scored two good tne-s. In spite of their defeat, the Rovers , made a creditable display,. Mr J. Smith refereed.
