FATAL COLLISION NEAR SHANNON

A serious accident occurred near Shannon on Saturday evening, as the result of which Mr William Davidson, employed at Mangahao, died in the Palmerston Hospital this afternoon. A motor-car driven by Mr Hugh Macintosh, of Makerua, was proceeding homewards from Shannon, when it came into collision with a gig, at a point about a quarter of a mile down the Shannon road. One of the occupants of the car, Mr Davidson, was struck on the head by a shaft of the gig, and sustained, very serious injury. The driver received injuries to his face and one of his hands. The other occupant of the car, Mr John Macintosh, was practically unhurt, sustaining only minor cuts from the broken glass of the wind-screen. He took charge of the two injured men and had them conveyed to Palmerston North by car.

The occupant of the gig, Mr Woods, a farmer, escaped unhurt.
