IN BANKRUPTCY.
/A SHANNON TAXI-PROPRIETOR
Harry Mortimer Tippler, taxi-pro-prietor, of Shannon, has filed a- petition in bankruptcy at tlie .D.O.A.’s office in Palmerston North.
Bankrupt in a written statement said lie: purchased a car in August, 1920, to earn his living- by . taxi work. Promissory notes were given for the amount of the- car. Mr S. iiowen, of Shannon, backed the bills, and took a bill of sale over-the c.ar for £ll2, which represented ' the : last instalment, which he was unable to meet, and; which Mr Bowen . paid. When he defaulted on the last instalment,- Mr W. Bowen seized' the car, on behalf of liis to whom he had passed tlie bill of sale. He arranged with Mr M. Suhan to. finance him to the extent of £l6O. Of this amount W. Bowen received £122 5/10. Small accounts absorbed the balance. Mr Suhan advanced tlie' £l6O lor six months, but, restricted his use of the car, which lie .had to.leave, in a, garage until lie could free it from debt. This left him without any means' to earn his ~owri living. About" nine weeks ago he started a bread run, and was still carrying it on. He was a married man with five children, and could not at present make,, any offer to liis creditors.
, M. J. Suhun (£160), ol' Levin, is the only secured creditor. The principal unsecured creditors are: S. H. StiJwell, engineer, Levin, £27 17/6; C. Eberhard, engineer, Palmerston North, £ll 3/; J. Milne, engineer, Levin, £ls 3/6; Shannon Dairy Co., £lB 7/6; Dawber Motors, Ltd., engineers, Palm’erston North, £l7 16/; -Shannon Cash Trading Co., £ll. The total amount unsecured is £143 14/. The bankrupts total assets are £lsl 14/, while his debts are £59. His deficiency is £97 6/. 1
