THIRDS. Shannon 8, Foxton 3. Hui Mai 11, Training Farm 3 Rovers 17, Weraroa 3. Te Horo 18, Old Boys 0.

SENIOR TEAM DEFAULTS. The Senior Team was to have played at Levin, but owing to their being unable to get a full team, they did. not go. This w!a.s a pity, as there are plenty of good players about Shannon, and it only wants a little keenness on their part to m,ake this team formidable.

JUNIOR GRADE,

SHANNON V. TOKOMARU. A very fine game resulted from the meeting of these two teams, and was the reason for quite a lot of excitement and cheering from those who attended. Shannon, kicked off with only twelve men and the sun behind them, and within ten ’minutes of the stail, Tokomaru, through a fumble by L. Buckman, who had dropped back to. full-back, scored their first . try. The kick at goal, an easy one, was successful. Tokomaru 5, Shannon 0. Following the kick-off, Tokomaru got; in some very pretty passing rushes, and running round the Shannon team, from a scramble : n front of the goal, -.scored and converted again. Tokomaru 10, Shannon 0. Another fine piece of play was the

means of iT'okomaru, again scoring. Their wing made a very fine run up the line ,and when in trouble, centered with a fine kick. Before Shannon could rally round, Tokomaru had again scored. The kick at goal this time was unsuccessful. Tokomaru 13, Shannon 0. By this time Tokomaru were having by far the best of the game. With fine passing by the backs and fine kicking and following up by the forwards, they had Shannon well penned up. Shannon now had a full team on the field, but even this could not keep Tokomaru from again scoring a try, and a very -welcome whistle at. half-time left the score— Tokomaru 16, Shannon 0. When Shannon lined up for the second spell it was noticed that they had changed their team around a - little, and whether this or the spell had anything to do with it or not, the game from now had a very altered aspect. From the kick-off, Shannon pressed hard, the forwards working like tigers and the backs passing the ball about whenever they could get hold of it. The first score for Shannon came through a scrum just on the! goal-line. The forwards with the ball at their toes pushed the Tokomaru pack clean over their goalline, and a Shannon forward fell on the ball and- scored. Buckman’s kick at goal failed. * Tokomaru I§, Shannon 3. Shortly after the kick-off, a Tokomaru back was penalised for holding on too long, and Buckman, who had been playing a great game, had a shot at goal, but missed. Another try. at. goal from a free kick by the same player only just missed, and It seemed as if Shannon could do everything but! score. Tokomaru had been defending hard all this time, and, in fact, were only out of .their own

half twice during the second spell

It was from one of these short invasions than iscored again. Robertson secured the ball at his own twenty-five, and with a very fine run up the line, showing great pace, carried play back to quarter way, when, with a fine screw kick, he centred, and Harris, who had followed up fast, scored a good try right under the posts. The kick was successful, and the score wais—-Tokomaru 16, Shannon 8. The game was now a fierce fight against time by Shannon, and as fierce a fight by Tokomaru to defend, but Shannon was not to be stopped, and a fine piece of combined play saw Shannon again score. The kick again was unsuccessful. Tokomaru 16, Shannon 11. Shortly after, the whistle blew for full time, with Shannon still attacking. To try and pick out Shannon players for specail mentiol would be .very hard indeed. Every man in the team worked like a Trojan, doing his best for Ms side, and it was only the absence of a good goal-kicker that lost them the match. This team should deevlop into a fine combination after a . little more practice, and a iittle more keenness by those who did not turn up.

THIRD GRADE. Shannon 8, beat Foxton 3. A good game.
