EXCITING MATCH AT PALMERSTON
For the third year in succession, Newtown has won the Easter tournament. at Palmerston. . The final was V played yesterday between Wylie's i ink and a Manawatu four skipped by Spooner. The match had a sensational finish. Spooner led practically, throughout,-and on the final head had two points advantage on the score board. "Furthermore he was lying two when Brackenridge was about to send down the final bowl of the tournament. The defeat" of the Newtown skip looked certain. There was but one chance of saving the head— Brackenridge took it and sent down a powerfully driven and well directed ball. “Three up!” wildly shouted his team, as Manawatu’s counting bowls were scattered and the kitty remained. He had succeeded in turning twodown into three-up, with a most remarkable shot. The suddenness with which the order of things was re versed, caused quite a sensation.
LEVIN GREEN CLOSED. The bowling season was officially closed in Levin yesterday. On the green during the afternoon Mr Lancaster, president of the club, presented each member of the Dixon Cup team with a photograph of the team. A framed photograph of the holders for the'winter of this , coveted trophy was presented to the club by the president. The photograph was received by the vice-president, Mr J. D. Brown, who expressed the pride the club felt in having the trophy in its hands. Cheers were given lor .the team.
