MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday night, the Mayor, Mr W. Murdoch, presiding. Others present wefe Crs. Fargher, Hook, Hyde, Richardson, Spencer and Butt. CORRESPONDENCE.
The Health Department wrote urging that the rat campaign be continued relentlessly. “Apart from the question of plague,” said the writer, Dr. Findlay, “a diminution in the rats cannot fail to be beneficial u property holders.”—Received.
Another communication from the same source drew attention to the absence of a manure receptacle in Tippler’s stables, and urged that the Council’s by-laws in this respect be enforced.—lt was decided to serve a notice on the occupant immediately to have the defect remedied.
The secretary of the Palmerston North Hospital Board forwarded a statement showing that the borough’s contribution for maintenance for the ensuing year was estimated at £97 13/6, and its share on the capital expenditure £3 9/B.—Received. GENERAL BUSINESS. On the motion of Cr. Fargher, was given Cr. Hook to purchase an additional ho|se dray and harness at a maximum of £SO, for use in connection with the borough street works. It was decided to enter into negotiations forthwith for the loan oi £4500 from the State Advances Office in order to proceed with the housing scheme. Cr; Hook reported that at the price of 9d a yard, the Council was obtaining first-class roading metal from Mr C. Stevens’ property.
