THE EROSION TROUBLE.

HOROWHENUA SAYS MANAWATU

BRIDGE IS SAFE

In reply to the Shannon Borough Council’s invitation to the controlling bodies to be represented at a conference of experts in regard to the erosion taking place near the bridge over the Manawatu River, the foil iwing reply was received by the Council at its meeting- on Tuesday night from the Horowhenua county «. ouncil.

“In the Council’s opinion there is no particular danger threa’cning the bridge at present, hence n confercne of experts at this juncture is unnecessary. Should danger threaten at any time, the Council will act promptly for the safety of the bridge. With regard to the river encroachment >n the road about half a mile from the bridge on the Foxton side, this Council looks, upon this matter as the responsibility of the Manawatu County Council.”

The Council decided to have its engineer report as to how far the bridge was menaced, independent of whatever erosion may take place on the road.
