CAR ON FIRE.
LOCAL RESIDENTS NARROW
ESCAPE.
One evening last week Mr E. J. S. Spencer decided to get his car ready for a journey in the morning, and with the aid of .a hurricane lamp proceeded to fill his car with petrol, a thing he had often done before. The car was in the shed with the hood up and evidently the fumes not escape quickly, hut suddenly burst into flaifie. Mr Spencer,’ with great danger to himself, carried the tin cd petrol out, and by blocking the hole in the tin with his hand smothered the flames. In the 'meantime the car was well going, and it seemed as though the tank would go up at any minute. Mr Spencer rushed in and got a piece of sack over the hole in the tank, and eventually managed tc get the stopper in. The body of the car was badty burnt, but the mec hanism was not damaged. Mr Spencer was burnt about the hands and t arms, but is making a good recovery. 1 The car was covered by an insurance policy.
