MANAWATU FLOOD WATERS.
——— — BANK AND CHANNEL SCHEME. The preliminary work of making an overflow cut to take the flood waters of the Manawatu River is proceeding slowly but surely. All the signatures were obtained some time ago, and the time allowed for any objections to be made to the scheme by those who will be brought into the rating area has almost expired. The scheme -will affect approximately 75,000 acres of land, which Is now flooded several times a year, and should a great effect on Shannon, for the land, which is of splendid quality, is now mostly in large holdings. Providing it can be kept immune from floods, which with the overflow and stop banks is fully expected, it is admiralyy suited for sub-division., The roading operations, which are being carried forlead one to believe that the owners have this end in view.
