MAORILAND THEATRE.

WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME. The role of a chorus girl whose ethics of life are summed up in the short, phrase, “you only live once, »o grab everything you can and never be sorry for anyone except yourself,” is the featured 1 role in the big Parker Bead production, “Sex,” that, is magnificently acted and superbly gowned by lionise Glaum.. In addition to originality of story, “Sex” has everything that constitutes a good picture. With its powerful theme, its volume ol truth, its well-drawn characterisation expressed through fine acting, and its lavish production—absolutely the last word in screen production--it presents a harmonious whole with an undoubted. punch and a moral that cannot he denied. This picture will head Wednesday’s programme at the Maoriiand Theatre.

“THE WONDERFUL CHANCE”— FRIDAY.

The art oi keeping things moving has been finely mastered in “The Wonderful Chance,” released by Selznick. It is lull of dramatic punch, ami has been conceived with originality and directed with alertness. Dramatic climaxes are swift and frequent. Best of all they are convincing. A band of crooks kidnaps an English nobleman, and in sending one of their own to impersonate him, discover that someone else has beaten them at their own

game. They decide to double-cross the other crook, but he is too quick for them, and their carefully-planned blow ends in an anti-climax. Eugene O’Brien doubles as the English lord and the American who s6‘ closely resembles him. He makes a sharp distinction between his two characterisations, and is as usual a pleasing entertainer.

TOKO3IARU PICTURES. ~-“The Wonderful Chance” will be screened at Toltomam on Thursday.
