TOKOMARU NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Tokomaru School Committee held a euchre party and dance on Friday evening .to raise funds for the annual picnic, which took place at Plinunerton on Saturday last. Cards were kept going till alter 10 o’clock. No less than five ladies tied for first place, and after the usual drawing, Mrs F. Smith was declared the winner. Mrs R. Guy won the consolation prize. Mr S. McLaggan won the gent.’s prize, Master Phillip securing the consolation prize. After Mr tt. Guy presented the prizes, the floor was cleared and dancing was kept going till about 1 a.m. Mr Coward supplied the music. There was a fair attendance.

The Church of England Sunday School held their annual picnic on Saturday, the 18th, in Mr Kelly’s ground hv die riverside, a most ideal place lor" such a gathering. The day was beautiful, and the children enjoyed themselves well. After having lunch, sports were.got going for them, and then each child received a bag of lollies. The prizes were then presented to them by the Vicar, the Rev. Mr Abbott, Mrs Abbott handing them to the scholars, Miss Kelly assisting. Every child received a book. Two special prizes were also given, ended one of the best picnics they have had for many years.

Tlie Day School had their annual picnic and excursion to Plimmerton on Saturday, the majority of the peo pie taking advantage of the outing. Tokomaru looked quite deserted, ait places of business being closed. All enjoyed themselves immensely, and the day was perfect, returning home about 7.30 p.m. highly pleased with the day’s outing. A great many folk have been gathering blackberries in the swamp of.' iate, and some fine fruit has been got.
