HOROWHENUA COUNTY MATTERS.

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. The January meeting of the Council on Saturday was attended by Crs G. A. Monk (chairman), J. R. Whyte, F. x J. Ryder, C. I. .1-larkness, S. A. Broaubeit, J. McLeavey, A. R. Knox, H. G Bryant and li. Barber. CUTTING OF WILLOWS. Mr W., Miles, overseer, Makerua Drainage Board, asked whether the County or the Drainage Board was responsible for the cutting of the willows on the Tokomaru River in Kingston Road. , Cr. Whyte said the information asked for could .he supplied by the Drainiage Board, and the writer was referred to that body. INSANITARY PREMISES. The Medical Officer of Health notified that certain premises at Heatherlea were in an insanitary condition, and recommended certain action for remedying the trouble,—Owner to be notified accordingly. KOPUTAROA CEMETERY. Mr F, Graham, Koputaroa, wrote stating that the Cemetery fence was in a very bad state ami his cattle were getting through it. He would like to get the fence repaired at once and asked what the County would do in the matter. - Cr Broadbelt said the work wanted doing and,he believed Mr Graham was willing to do his share of it. The Clerk said the Council had no record as to whether the cemetery was County property.. Cr Broadbelt stated the property had "been given to the County by the late Mr John Davies. 'The Chairman said there was no reason why the fence should not be repaired and the matter of the title could he enquired into later. The matter was left in the hands of Cr Broadbelt and the Engineer, with power to act. QUESTION OF DAMAGES. , The Town Clerk, Shahnon Borough Council, wrote stating the County Engineer had been* asked to meet the Works Committee to- assess the damage done the Borough streets by the cartage of Cjounty metal over them. The Engineer had ‘not yet met the Committee and enquiry was made as to when a meeting could he arranged. The Engineer said it was impossible to pick out the damage done by the County lorry when other lorries were using the roads in Shannon. Shannon wanted payment for damages that, should have been done, not what had actually done. The County Council had given the Shannon Borough the use of the grader and a man fof three days.. . Cr. Barber thought that they might meet the roads committee and see what could he done. He had no doubt an amicable arrangement would be come to. 1 Cr Barber and the Engineer were appointed to meet the Shannon roads committee to discuss the matter.
