FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The United Friendly of Levin held their annual picnic and sports gathering on the Domain on Monday. The day was beautifully fine and the bright sunshine attracted a targe gathering from all parts of the district, who followed the proceedings with the greatest interest The sports committee had their arrangements well prepared, and the whole programme worked smoothly, the presence of the Levin Band adding much to the general enjoyment of the occasion-. The committee in charge of the gathering, and especially the secretary, Mr T. Johnson, deserve every credit for the excellent way in which* the arrangements were carried out, and it is to their foresight that the success of the day is attributable. A great feature of the day was the presence of so many families, who spent a most pleasant time, and the societies are to be congratulated on providing such an enjoyable outing. Good competition was experienced throughout the day in the various events, and the children especially enjoyed the races provided on their behalf, so much so that their events were among the most keenly competed of the day.
