BEDROCK PRICES.

AT THE LEVIN MARKET

Pigs in all classes showed a sharp decline at Tuesday’s sale, and sheep Wid cattle, but particularly the latter, made very low rates, the only entries of the latter section bringing Tear late prices being young dairy heifers. In the opinion of several farmers and stockmen, whose experience, extends over the last 25 or 30 years, the values were as low as any thai they remembered in that time. The pig entry was not so large as last week’s, when weaner prices ranged from 7/ to 14/, as against 5/ to 8/ yesterday. .Top prices in stores reached 17/6, compared with 30/ a week ago, and porkers from 25/ to 68/ for light to good medium weights, whilst two exceptional lots brought 112 10/ and v £2 18/. Last week the great hulk of the entry realised from £2 upwards. There is no doubt that the early closing down of the bacon factories. for the Christmas holidays, ana the consequent slackening of the demand for porkers affected the sale? sale.

Sheep were again a small yardin/g,. but more than met requirements, the inquiry not being at all, brisk. Pat ewes fhalwould scale anything from 601 b to 70lb realised 10/, or twopeaace per lb. pood 4-tooth wethers made 8/11, and fat hoggets 7/6. A good many lines of fats were passed in. Cattle made few sales. Fat cows I ranged from -£2 5/ to £2 10/. Yooing jj heifers were again the best sellers in the section, and every. line from weaners to 18 months’- old was sold at fairly good prices. The dairy section was a very small one,- but the animals ? were above ordinary, and /all sold | from £8 for animals at the. drop to a £l2 for those in milk. . I Pigs.—-Weaners 5/, 6/, 7/ to 8/; stores 10/ to 12/6, to 14/ and 17/6; porkers 25/, 27/6, 30/, 33/, 35/, and 38/ to £2 10/ and £2 18/.
