SHANNON MATTERS.
DEALT WITH BY COUNTY COUNCIL. At Saturday’s meeting of the County Council, the following matters were considered: — SLAUGHTERING LICENSE TRANSFER Mr Johii Schwass, Tokomaru, applied for a transfer of his ing license to Mr E. Sothern, Tokomaru—Granted.- * THE SHANNON CEMETERY. The Shannon Borough Council' wrote that after discussion it had been decided to approach the County Council with a view to obtaining an annual grant for the upkeep of the Cemetery. It was pointed, out that it was as much interest to the people of Tokomaru ward of the county to keep the cemetery in good order as it was to the people of the Shannon bordugh. The Shannon Council suggested thatthe -county and borough each contribute £25 per year, and that the proceeds from the sale of plots be added to this, and that the Tokomaru representative on the Council be added to the borough Cemetery Committee. Cr. Barber said the Shannon borough had a grant this year. ■The chairman said that was so. He did not think another grant should be made till after tfie end of the financial year. He moved accordingly, and the motion was carried. A SHANNON ROAD. • Mr James McDonald, Shannon, wrote stating that whilst he was working on j the road from the quarry ' the surface was getting cut up. He inquired whether the Council would pay £3 per chain to have-it metalled whilst, he was working there, and thus make a job of it. When it rained he was forced to cease work, or the road would be cut up worse, .but if metalled he could keep on working. The chairman said it was just- as well to know what the condition .of the road was before anything was done, and he suggested the letter be held over. This was agreed to.
