ALCOHOLIC PATIENTS.
(To the Editor.) Sir—Permit me to call your attention, to the very serious abuse which was presented to the contemplation of the Palmerston North Hospital Board recently. Can anyone who loves fairplay be willing that the ratepayers should be compelled to "fork out" for the storage of a commodity which they neither require nor desire—the drunkard? Why is not the expense of their caxe and maintenance while in a state of dangerous lunacy deducted from the immense profits of the Licensed Victuallers' Association, who manufacture the articles? Why i« this Association not compelled in every town of over 1000 persons to erect a building and provide medical attendance? The Government is supposed to be studying economy. Here is a simple matter of justice which would assist materially. It is time we as a community refused to be robbed for the benefit of a few.-I am, etc, SPECTATOR.
