Holms, who represented TTevln at the Dominion conference of Chambers of Commerce at Christchurch, says it was decided to urge on the banks the necessity of securing uniformity in the note issue. At present the notes of different denominations and banks were of many shapes, sizes and colours, and it was a matter of extreme difficulty to avoid mak- ? ing a mistake. Other banking reforms j asked for were- the abolition of the half-yearly charge of 5s for keeping 'customers' accounts, the payment of ' interest on current accounts of £IOO I and over, this latter as a matter of equity and with the object of attract- { ing a larger amount of liquid money ' for financing commercial enterprises.
