One happening at the Horowhenua Meeting that has since formed a.; subject of discussion in sporting circles was the withdrawal of Celmisia' from the Levin Hack Handicap, 'liie.action of / the club in withholding the'.totalisator money invested in Celmisia has been criticised, but the stewards were only acting in accordance with the rules. It was fortunate that the affair did hot happen ten or fifteen minutes later alter Celmisia had done a preliminary gallop. She would have been a ho.t favourite, and there would have been a few hundreds more than the £2l opposite her name. Formerly, the stewards had power 'to refund moneys invested on horses that did not weigh out, or that did not start after weighing out. It will be remembered that there was a case at Horowhenua last year, when Ladify bolted prior to the start of the Cup, and was withdrawn from the race, and the money returned. The rule was amended at the last conference, and now reads as follows: “If any ticket he purchased on a horse which does not weigh out, the stewards may order the amount paid on the purchase, of the ticket no be refunded on production and delivery of the ticket, but no refund shall be made when the horse on which the ticket was purchased has weighed out.” —Sir Launcelot in the “Post.” A. Reed rode three winners at Horowhenua, bringing His total for the season up to 16, three mqre than C. Emerson, who is next on the list. . Kuia is Hot engaged at Ashhurst, hut is at- Feilding; where her owner, Mr R. Harper, is a steward of the club.
Passenger had the. same weight at Ashhurst as at Horowhenua. A 101 b penalty will increase his impost to 10.5.
