“THE EASTERN CHARM.”
- ■ • 1 ♦ THE STORY. I The entertainment to the staged in the Maoriland Theatre on Thursday and Friday has an interesting story running through the performance. The story opens in the home of the little English Princess Nadine, on her eighteenth birthday. A century before the opening of the play a very wicked king had occupied the throne. For his countless deeds of evil the angry gods transformed this mighty king into a monstrous dragon, but his evil nature still prevails, and is a menace to the land. The Princess Nadine is the chosen mortal who is to be the means of removing tfyis i curse. Prince Charming, a guest ;n the palace, is in search of a ,lost treasure, stolen from his kingdom during the reign of the wicked king. Under the guidance of the Fairy Queen the Prince and Princess journey to the East, to secure the "Charm” which is a magical sword and shield, the only weapons with which the dragon may be slain. In the gorgeous Eastern palace, with its glitter j and dark beauties, the little blonde Princess stands out like a ra,re and exquisite flower, thus gaining from the Easterners the name "Little Desert Flower.” The strange charm of the Princess captures the fickle heart of the Eastern Prince, and she is forced to accept him as her affianced lord. On the night of the betrothal feast the Prince and Princess escape from the palace with the Charm and travel the desert under the Guidance of the Faif*y Queen. Home in their own land once more, the Prince slays the dragon, his treasure, and wins the Princess, and, of course, they live happily ever after. Beautiful effects and songs and dances are- interwoven with the story, the whole forming a delightful entertainment.
Among the musical' items is a charming duet by "The Eastern Lord” (Mr Parkhouse) and a Harem girl (Mrs Davys), and Easfem love song by Mr Jennings, an action song by the two little Thompsons, and a solo by Miss Qrsman.
