LEVIN ATHLETIC CLUB’S SPORTS.

Weather conditions yesterday were not favourable to a good days sport, j but the Levin Amateur Athietic Ciujj i carried out their programme as ar ranged, and in the loot events m par ticular, some very close finishes resulted. The club’s officials had j spent a good deal oi time and energy I in preparing the ground, and n it had not been lor the heavy rain of j the previous evening, both cycle and j running tracks would have been in splendid order. As it was, the one track had to be used for all events, ; the cycle track being under water iu j places. The committee expressed the s greatest pleasure in the sportsman- j like manner in which the competitors came forward, and the eagerness with which they contested me van- j ous events under such trying conditions.

The following- are the results:— 75 Yards Maiden.—W. Ward§ 1, P. Williams 2, H. P. Dale 3. A very close finish, a yard separating first and second. Dale running half a yard behind second man.

Half-mile Maiden Cycle Race—R. Henderson 1, Lou Johns 2, E. Pink 3. A well contested race, Henderson winning by about two yards.

100 Yards Handicap—K. S. Glendinning, syds, 1; W. Wards, 10yds, 2; G. Spencer, 6yds, 3. A very close finish, only a yard between all three runners.

100 Yards (Boys under 12).—Joe Broughton 1, H. Howard 2, Desmond Morgan 3. Half-mile Cycle Handicap. —B. Cooper 1, H. W/Kilsby 2, jmu Johns' 3. Cooper, who was on the limit mark, led all the way. and won by about six lengths. 150 Yards (Boys over 12).—Gill 1, Procter 2, Fox 3.

220 Yards Handicap—K. S. Glendinning, 10yds, 1; H. F. Green, 20yds, 2; A. H. Fox, 7yds, 3. A keenly-con-tested event. Glendinning, who exhibits fine style in running, winning by inches.

One Mile Cycle Handicap.—B. Cooper 1, Lou Johns 2, H. W. Kilsby 3. Cooper soon went to the front and his position was seldom in doubt. Johns, however:, rode a good race, but his machine was geared too high to be effective against the high wind. High Jump.—K. S. Glendinning 1, S. Joyce 2, W. Wards 3. J. Gill, who is a mere lad, slipped rather badly and received a slight injury to the head. He had, however, recovered sufficiently to gain third place in the boys’ cycle race.

880 Yards Handicap.—H. F. Green, 50yds, 3; S. Joyce, 50yds, 2. Wards went to title front at the start and maintained his lead for a lap and ahalf. Joyce, who was then in third place, made a splendid sprint, but was up well by Green. Wards tiring, abandoned the ; race, which was eventually won by Gfeen,, about three yards ahead of Joyce. Glendinning, the only other starter, gave up about the same time as Wards.

Hop, Step and Jump.—Glendinning 1, Fox 2, Green 3.
